The Working Conditions and Clinical Trial Practice of Research Nurses

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the working conditions and clinical trial practice of Research nurses

Method: Data were collected with self administrated questionnaire which consisted of socio-demographic
characteristics, working condition, clinical trial practice, work satisfaction and intention to quit, hope from 77 nurses who were selected through snowball sampling.

Result: Most were part timer. 43.9% of subjects belong to medical department, most annual income were 10-20 million won. 62.3% of them are called clinical research nurses. 39.0% of them are responsible for 1-2 projects, and main roles are completing case report form, contact to investigator/ sponsor, screening the study participants. 48.0% of subjects are satisfied with their work, and the reasons are work is intersting and enjoyable, it is convient to use time. They hope establishing system for clinical research nurse, improving salary and position, regularization , developing educational programs. Work satisfaction is related to higher annual income(p=.002), regular employment(p=.005), educational experience on the working area(p=.005), no intention to quit(p=.000).

Conclusion: The working conditions are poor, and there is no qualification and educational systems for research nurses . To be professional nurses in clinical trials, it is needed to develop adequate qualification and educational programs.
